| | R.O.V = Return On Investment "Don't Make Anyone a Priority That Only Considers You an Option" is an age-old quotation that has been heard around the world, but how many of us are living it day in and day out, situation by situation? One of the three best friends in Secrets of a Kept Woman struggles with this very issue, putting a man first before God, herself, family or friends. There is a valuable lesson to be learned in life about making people priorities, even when you do not realize, or better yet acknowledge, that you are a mere after thought for them. This is one of those issues that happen to even the best of us, so I digress - I [Shani Greene-Dowdell] have been got caught putting too much stock in people, jobs, or business a time or two, well maybe three or four or five times in my life! You see, it doesn't really matter if it's a person using you for your resources or a job that takes and takes from you unwilling to give fair compensation back. They both will suck on you like a leach until you are completely devoid of the energy you need to enjoy living your life, or as Oprah would say "live your best life." It's perfectly okay to make some things or even some people priorities in your life as long as you are compensated with the same vigor that you put into those relationships. How would you like working double shifts for an entire month straight at 80 plus hours per week and when pay day rolled around you received a check for five hundred dollars? Well, what if that five hundred dollars was reduced to a twenty dollar bill? You should, I know I would, feel cheated, neglected, used, and abused and highly confused. If our checks were shorted, we'd be ready to cut the fool on the establishment, but yet we allow ourselves to be shorted by people and situations all the time. Why is that? Take that same analagy from the job and apply it to relationships with people, whether they be associates, friends, colleagues, partners or spouses, and you will have the secret to one facet of inner peace. Hey, now that's a secret that should be told from the mountains. The stock market came crashing down with no R.O.V. for many Americans as a result of the Wallstreet monster that took and took with no intent on giving back. We, the people, made Wallstreet a priority [sold on the dream of a lavish retirement at 50] when we were merely an option! Trust that I'm not saying not to invest for your future, but be careful of who or what you invest in. Make your next move your best move, and make no secret about it and that's a memo. Sizzling Hot Review Mocha Chocolate Review by Jason FrostYou know the old saying that "sometimes books find you?" Well, that was the case for me with this book. One of the authors (Kotanya Kimbrough) was in our bookstore to sign one of her books and this one was on the table. Naturally, my eyes were drawn to the gorgeous set of Nubian legs on the cover and I, of course, picked it up. There I was minding my business reading the new one by James Rollins and this one comes out of nowhere to buss me up! So Mr. Rollins took a back seat and the authors in this collection jumped up all in my face!
